本片是导演扬•特洛尔1971年的名作《大移民》的续篇，两部电影均改编自Vilhelm Moberg的The Emigrants系列小说。本片取材此系列的后两部小说，The Settlers 和The Last Letter Home，讲述一批瑞典移民在19世纪中期的明尼苏达州建造家园的故事。Comedy about the proverbial genie who comes out of a bottle (a table lamp in this instance) to serve his new master. The only problem is that instead of helping his master, the genie (Burl Ives) tends to get his master (Tony Randall) into more predicaments than he gets him out of.。出身贫困的沈相宜凭借努力考上顶尖大学。母亲却将她勤工俭学的钱拿走，贴补弟弟。沈相宜一直受到神秘大叔的资助，她不愿再伸手要钱，与好友去城里打工攒学费。可陆怀川早就派人来接她，而好友竟贪图富贵，冒名顶替。。
